Wayne Memorial Hospital Following Precedent of other Area Hospital Emergency Rooms

Jesup , GA - Beginning June 1, patients presenting at the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room (ER) may notice a slight change. While proper patient assessment and care will still continue to be offered as the top priority, the payment function for those services will be handled differently for non-emergency patients.

“We are the last hospital in the area to go to a pay-first emergency department, but we are being forced to do so because of all the non-emergency patients showing up in the ER,” says Hospital CEO Joe Ierardi.

The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary held their 33rd Annual Awards Banquet at Unity Church of God. Approximately 100 volunteers, guest and hospital officials were in attendance. Unity hosted the event, providing the meal and servers for hospital volunteers and their guests.
After hearing keynote speaker Rev. William “Bill” Perry, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Statesboro, deliver an inspirational message, 30 Auxiliary Members received pins for reaching milestone hour levels ranging from 100 to 13,500 hours. The Auxiliary, as a whole, volunteered a total of 16,306 hours during the last 12 months, equating to approximately eight full-time employees. This year’s group of 30 pin winners has given a total of 71,500 hours of service in their lifetimes to the hospital, equating to approximately 34 full-time employees. According to the Hands On Network, the hours given by the entire group this year (16,306) equals approximately $361,000 in free labor donated back to the hospital.
