Sum will provide additional surgical equipment

The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary held their Annual Awards Banquet at Unity Church of God. Approximately 100 volunteers, guest and hospital officials were in attendance. Unity hosted the event, providing the meal, servers and décor for hospital volunteers and their guests.

After hearing guest speaker Mr. William “Dink” NeSmith, Chairman of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, deliver a humorous and encouraging message, 35 members received pins for reaching milestone hour levels ranging from 100 to 14,000 hours. The Auxiliary, as a whole, volunteered a total of 16,466 hours during the last 12 months. That number of hours equates to approximately 8 full-time employees. This particular group of 35 pin winners has given a total of 86,700 hours of service in their lifetimes to the hospital, equating to approximately 42 full-time employees.

First Lady Deal’s Visit Highlights Importance of Childhood Immunizations

Key members of the health community on hand to support the initiative, from left to right:  Hospital Authority Member David Earl Keith, Governor’s Office for Children and Families Executive Director Katie Jo Ballard, State Senator Buddy Carter, First Lady Deal, Hospital CEO Joe Ierardi, Hospital CFO Greg Jones, Hospital OB/Nursery Director Anita Brewer, Hospital Nursery Charge Nurse Helen Raczkowski, and State Representative Chad Nimmer.
Jesup, GA – First Lady Sandra Deal visited the Maternity Ward Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup to share an important message. So important, that she delivered it in person. New mothers Kelsie Powell and Beverly Jones welcomed First Lady Deal into their private hospital rooms to meet their newborns and family members. While visiting with the First Lady, each mother was able to hear about the importance of newborn immunizations, a focus during the month of July for The Georgia Children’s Cabinet. Powell and Jones also received congratulatory cards from The Governor and Mrs. Deal with a warm message asking for parents help in ensuring that all Georgia babies be given an opportunity for a safe and healthy life. The Hallmark cards also include a blank, tear-off immunization card for the parents to keep track of their baby’s immunizations. More about the Cabinet and its initiatives may be found online at: https://children.georgia.gov/current-projects

Help Avert Summer Shortage of Blood

by Donating at Wayne Memorial Hospital Blood Drive Wednesday, July 10

According to the Red Cross, during the months of June, July and August, on average, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what hospital patients need. This could add up to more than 100,000 fewer donations during the summer, but the need remains constant. In fact, someone in the United States needs blood every 2 seconds. You may wonder what you can do to help locally with such a large-scale, national need. Why not make an appointment today to give blood at the next hospital drive Wednesday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.? Donors can pick their own appointment times by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Donors will be given a gift certificate for a meal at the award-winning Café at Wayne Memorial as a show of appreciation.
